The Science Centre's opening hours are 10 AM to 4 PM every day including most public holidays. Anyone is most welcome to visit the Science Centre during this time. We also accept group bookings and we have a function room available for hire. For more information, see the General Admission or Bookings pages.
There is on-site parking which is free for Science Centre visitors.
New to Wollongong is the Interactive Illusions exhibition. All the way from Scitech in Perth, we have now have a selection of big and bright travelling exhibits that all show weird and unusual illusions
Do you like to get "hands on"? Our two-storey Exhibit Hall has over 100 interactive exhibits relating to various themes like "The Machine ", "Dinosaurs, Fossils and Coal" and "Nanotechnology"
Do you have an interest in astronomy? Visit the BlueScope Steel Planetarium - our Planetarium - for stunning recreations of the night sky - from around the world, from different eras - even from a different planet! The Planetarium also offers exciting laser shows.
If you want to see the real sky up close & personal our Observatory has a powerful telescope and plenty of amazing images from distant galaxies far, far away...
Entertaining Science Shows in the Illawarra Coal Science Theatre explore the more interactive fields of science, whether it be blowing gigantic bubbles, freezing objects or just blowing things up :-).
Our school outreach program is called Star Trails. Star Trails brings science shows to your school. A high quality portable planetarium is also available which uses the latest full dome projection equipment to create visually spectacular and highly informative presentations.

Monday 29th September
Arrgh me hearties! Enjoy a range of swashbuckling science experiments including fizzy cannons, walking the plank, sinking a pirate ship and lots more! Learn about bearings and how to use a compass.
Tuesday 30th September
Bubbles and Burps
Why do some foods and drink have bubbles in them? How is bread made? Learn about detergents and surface tension through some bubble-tastic experiments. Create your own bubble bath and bubble snake to take home.
Wednesday 1st October
Construct it Challenge
Are you up for the challenge? Design a supportive structure to protect your egg from cracking when its dropped from the second floor balcony! Learn about the science behind construction and architecture as you engineer straw towers and 3D shapes.
Thursday 2nd October Flowers & Seeds
For all budding gardeners! Dissect flowers, learn the anatomy of an apple and discover how seeds travel. Plant your seeds and make a flower model to take home.
Friday 3rd October Fizzy Science
Learn about acids and bases as we make our own fizzy lemonade and sherbet to take home. Explode a zip lock bag and enjoy the famous diet Coke and Mentos geyser experiment.
All suitable for 6 to 10 year olds only
Only $20 for non-members - $15 for Science Centre Members
Entry from 9.15am for a prompt 9.30am start and run for 90mins
