Science Centre Building

The Science Centre's opening hours are 10 AM to 4 PM every day including most public holidays. Anyone is most welcome to visit the Science Centre during this time. We also accept group bookings and we have a function room available for hire. For more information, see the General Admission or Bookings pages.

There is on-site parking which is free for Science Centre visitors.

Children's Holiday Science Workshops

Tuesday 7/4/15 - Science Friction

Ready, set, go! Which team will win the marble race? What type of road surface is best to drive on? Experiment with friction and traction in this workshop. Suitable for 6 - 10 year olds.

Wednesday 8/4/15

Worms & Creepy Critters... What creatures are lurking at the bottom of your garden? How is compost made? Create a real worm farm and invent a wacky insect to take home. Suitable for 6 - 10 year olds.

Thursday 9/4/15 Dinosaurs & Fossils

Attention all aspiring paleontologists! Learn about dinosaurs, cast a yummy chocolate trilobite and create your own layered fossil lake model to take home. Suitable for 6 - 10 year olds.

Friday 10/4/15 - Slime Chemistry

In this workshop we make gooey slime to take home and try some cool experiments with polymers. Suitable for 6 - 10 year olds.

  • Ticket pre-purchase is essential. Tickets may be booked, however places are not confirmed until the tickets are paid for.
  • Tickets are not refundable unless 5 working days’ notice is given.
  • Tickets are $15 /child per workshop for Members and $20 for non-members. Workshops will run for 90 minutes.
  • ALL workshop ticket holders will be admitted at 9.15 for a PROMPT 9.30am start.
  • Children must be within the required age range to attend each workshop.
  • If your child has any allergies please let us know when you book.  


The Holiday Science Trail is Back!
After a very popular introduction last year, we invite you to join in the hunt these Easter holidays!
Just collect the free worksheet from reception when you purchase your entry tickets and follow the Science Trail to find all the clues. When you have all the clues, solve the riddle and claim your prize! Children of all ages are welcome to join in the fun!


3D Printing & Design Workshop

This cutting edge workshop is for inqusitive youngsters keen to discover and explore the
exciting technology of 3D design and printing in a fun, hands-on small group setting.
Participants will be learning a wide range of skill including basic CAD modelling and design
We will have them thinking, sketching, inventing and problem solving for a special project
such as a piece of jewellery, a toy or a nametag once again resulting in another of their
very own fully 3D Printed designs to keep.
This workshop aims to engage, enrich and inspire big minds contained in little bodies.
Items not able to be printed on the day will be sent to your child within two weeks.

What we supply:
Multiple 3D printers to ensure your child gets to print
All consumable materials
A take-home handbook
WiFi access
All necessary software
A completion certificate for the workshop

What you need to bring:
Mac or Windows Notebook Computer with a mouse
Lunch and drinks

Major Exhibits

New to Wollongong is the Interactive Illusions exhibition. All the way from Scitech in Perth, we have now have a selection of big and bright travelling exhibits that all show weird and unusual illusions

Do you like to get "hands on"? Our two-storey Exhibit Hall has over 100 interactive exhibits relating to various themes like "The Machine ", "Dinosaurs, Fossils and Coal" and "Nanotechnology"

Do you have an interest in astronomy? Visit the BlueScope Steel Planetarium - our Planetarium - for stunning recreations of the night sky - from around the world, from different eras - even from a different planet! The Planetarium also offers exciting laser shows.

If you want to see the real sky up close & personal our Observatory has a powerful telescope and plenty of amazing images from distant galaxies far, far away...

Entertaining Science Shows in the Illawarra Coal Science Theatre explore the more interactive fields of science, whether it be blowing gigantic bubbles, freezing objects or just blowing things up :-).

School Outreach

Our school outreach program is called Star Trails. Star Trails brings science shows to your school. A high quality portable planetarium is also available which uses the latest full dome projection equipment to create visually spectacular and highly informative presentations.
