Welcome to the Wollongong Science Centre and Planetarium. The Science Centre and Planetarium is located on the Innovation Campus University of Wollongong.

Science Centre Building

The Science Centre's opening hours are 10 AM to 4 PM every day including most public holidays. Anyone is most welcome to visit the Science Centre during this time. We also accept group bookings and we have a function room available for hire. For more information, see the General Admission or Bookings pages.

There is on-site parking which is free for Science Centre visitors.




NOTE: The Science Centre also has an exciting outreach program (science shows as well as planetarium). This is available to both schools and public venues. Contact us if you want to make a booking!

We have had a donation of a large screen. We need to purchase a computer, build a console in our workshop and pay an installation and annual licence fee.

Major Exhibits

Do you like to get "hands on"? Our two-storey Exhibit Hall has over 100 interactive exhibits relating to various themes like "The Machine " and "Nanotechnology"

Do you have an interest in astronomy? Visit the BlueScope Steel Planetarium - our Planetarium - for stunning recreations of the night sky - from around the world, from different eras - even from a different planet! The Planetarium also offers exciting laser shows.

If you want to see the real sky up close & personal our Observatory has a powerful telescope and plenty of amazing images from distant galaxies far, far away...

Entertaining Science Shows in the Illawarra Coal Science Theatre explore the more interactive fields of science, whether it be blowing gigantic bubbles, freezing objects or just blowing things up :-).

School Outreach

Our school outreach program is called Star Trails. Star Trails brings science shows to your school. A high quality portable planetarium is also available which uses the latest full dome projection equipment to create visually spectacular and highly informative presentations.

Opening of New Exhibition - Nanotechnology - NOW OPEN!

School Holiday Children's Workshops

Children's Holiday Science Workshops
Children must be within the required age range to attend each workshop.
Please check your child's age against the indicated age next to the workshop title.
If your child has any allergies, please let us know when you book.
Times: Each workshop runs for 90 minutes. Workshop ticket holders for all workshops will be
admitted at 9.15am for a PROMPT
9.30am start.
Cost: $15 per child per workshop for Science Centre Members and $20 for non-members.

Tuesday 22nd April 2014 - Slime Chemistry - In this gooey workshop we make sticky slime to take home and try some cool experiments with polymers. Suitable for 8 to 12 year olds.

Wednesday 23rd April 2014 - Crystals & Ice Cream - Learn how crystals evolve in nature, make ice cream and watch crystals form before your eyes! Suitable for 6 to 10 year olds.

Thursday 24th April 2014 - Wizard Science - Float a paperclip, create a magic balloon pig, watch a sultana dance and much more. This workshop looks at the science behind magic tricks! Suitable for 6 to 10 year olds.

Day/Date Workshop
Ticket pre-purchase is essential. Tickets may be booked, however places are not confirmed until the tickets are paid for. Tickets are not refundable unless 5 working days notice is given.
